As suggested at our last meeting here is a list of pictures I would like for our Oshawa Creek Then & Now video.
Wide angle view of the GM plant.
GenAuto shipping yard with rows of vehicles
GM Office Bldg.
AG Simpson Plant
City Hall
Michael Starr Bldg.
Oshawa Hospital & Cancer Center.
Oshawa Airport with planes.
UOIT and Durham College.
People enjoying themselves along the creek.
The salmon run later on
I am not looking for a large quantity of pics so be selective and only give me ones that are sharp and well exposed. I appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Don

New photos taken at the same general location as old Bouckley Collection photos.
Al D. supplied this shot of the current bridge at Conlin's Road along with the old abandoned bridge. We suspect the abandoned bridge is the one in the Bouckley picture after it was repaired from the extensive flood damage.
Notice how the direction of Conlin's Road has changed over the years.
Back in the late 19th century and early 20th century the pond and mill just north of Mill St. was a busy area. There is not much left to identify that the mill actually existed. However, just north of the current bridge there are large chunks of concrete along the banks and the bed of the creek appears to be large slabs of level concrete and close by are large slabs of slate that could be the remains of the dam or mill building.

Cedardale and Mill St. Dams
Using maps provided by Ed Warner and the Oshawa Museum staff I have created a map depicting the way the creek was back when only the aboriginal people were here. Then the map will slowly change adding where the settlers first built their homes and then change the shape of the creek as dams are added to it. Below is a segment of the map showing the Mill St. and Cedardale mill ponds.
An interesting fact I learned from Melissa and Jennifer at the Oshawa Museum was the first Europeans in this area were French and they established a fur trading post at the mouth of the creek. Due to the sever shoreline erosion the present day location of this post is somewhere well out in to the lake.Incidentally it is at this post Mr Wilson and family the first settlers in the area stayed till their home was built.

Upper Reaches of the Creek
Here are a few photos of one of the sources of the creek as the water just oozes out of the ground the forms a tiny stream that continues to get larger and larger.
Oshawa Mueum & Bouckley Photos
Met with Melissa Cole and Jennifer Weymark yesterday to identify the locations of the photos Donna G.obtained from the Bouckley collection. Melissa and Jennifer were very helpful. Next post I will include some of the photos and locations so you can get your best shot of that same location today.

Below is the construction of the bridge over the Oshawa creek at Conlin's road. Currently there is an abandon bridge beside the bridge that is being used today. I suspect the bridge under construction here is the abandon bridge that is there today.

Some More Members Photos and a Video
Looking forward to next Tuesday's meeting as Donna G. will bring in some of Bouckley's old creek photos. As soon as we can locate these sites, with the help of the Oshawa Museum people, we can get a number of members out shooting current photos of the same locations.
According to this blog's instructions, it is capable of handling video clips so this is a test to try out this feature.

Waterfalls, The Source and Trilliums
We had a successful club outing photographing waterfalls around the Bracebridge area. Nice day and we had a good turnout of 13 members. Below is one of my pics.
A few of the members have sent me some creek photos which I appreciate.

Rapids and Waterfalls
Looking forward to our outting on Tuesday to photo waterfalls. There is a rapids on the Oshawa creek just north of CLOCA, that I tried a few things on. It was an overcast day which helped and I used a ND filter. The trick to getting nice milky water is a slow shutter speed. You need at least 1/15 of a second or slower if possible to get the effect you want. Lowest ISO, polarizer filter, neutral density filter and a cloudy day all help. Here are a few of my test shots.

Oshawa Seniors' Camera Club Creek Project
The working title of our project is "The Oshawa Creek Then & Now". This is an ambitious project taken on by the seniors camera club and we will use this blog to display pictures of creek activity and to keep members up to date. Members please send me some of your creek pictures for others to view.
